Career Break - Why is it considered as sin ?
After a satisfactory career for 16 years in the telecom industry , I decided to take a break for a few years. Suddenly I could hear all kinds of uncomplimentary comments from my so called well wishers. The company may have been outsourced , she must have been asked to leave were some of the holy crap that I could hear people speaking in hushed whispers which was FAR AWAY from the truth!! So coming back to my point , is taking a career break so sinful in our country ? Isn't work only a part of our lives and not the other way around ? Can't an individual keep his materialistic attitude aside and think of doing something which gives creative satisfaction to him ? Life has a lot to offer. So does an individual only needs to take the safe path and work in a corporate to make himself seem important and useful ? I beg to differ.
I agree my work gave me a lot of things - my identity , my sense of creativity , my friends , exposure to handling the finest projects in telecom and above all my savings( after all money can't buy everything but you need to be able to have enough to say that!) But receiving your child at the bus stop when its time to come back from school gives me enough pleasure , playing ludo , hide & seek and reading stories to them also makes me feel complete , cooking hot rotis for them in the afternoon gives me internal satisfaction. Suddenly life has so much of variety , options being :
- I have joined a library ( had little time for reading while working )
- Will be joining a fitness class ( did not have time for this either )
- I go for walks with my husband in the morning after kids go to school
- Will be joining the ladies committee for organizing events in the society very soon
- Can take my kids for classes like swimming , tennis and dance
- Get enough time for focussing on my kids studies and special projects
- Get enough time to devote for my hobbies like writing ( which is why this blog! )
- Get time to enjoy my grocery shoppings , other shopping which was otherwise a routine duty
- Get time to cater to guests anto display my hospitality
- Get time to get wet in the rain with my kids in this beautiful weath
Well all in all I am leading a complete life just without the pay package. All women in a way have an advantage to take a career break whenever they want to. And I am happy I have finally used my mind over matter to do exactly that!!!

They say "all negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present ". Be yourself, enjoy your present and live in the moment.
