The Book
We are a group of eight friends
and all of us like reading. I have had some of them ask me which was the most
interesting book that I have ever read. Now how earth can one possibly answer
that? It’s like judging which is the most beautiful country in the world? There
are so many! I really can’t pinpoint. I read everything, from biographies,
fiction to self-help books. Some books leave a lasting impression and change
the course of your life while others give you a momentary feeling of
contentment and happiness. I usually read two books at a time. I can’t wait
till one gets over and then start with the other one. Mostly the two genres I
read at a time are completely different from each other. Like this week I am
reading a book by Brahmakumari Shivani and a romantic novel by Nora Roberts. I
usually read in the morning after I finish with newspaper. My mind is fresh and
ready to absorb and enjoy whatever I choose to read. I am glad that my mother
installed the habit of reading in me which in turn I have passed on to my
children. I used to read their story books to them but now that they have grown
up, they want to do it themselves. We are members of a common library where we
go every Saturday. My husband though is the odd one out who isn’t into reading
at all. I tried convincing him but I have given up! Sometimes I miss those days
when my son (my first born) was a toddler and I used to read to him in the
night before sleeping. He used to ask me funny, innocent questions in his sweet
baby language and I used to laugh inside while answering them. I hope I get the
opportunity to read to my grandchildren some day! Over the period of time I now
have a collection of so many amazing books. Some which I have donated while
others I want to pass on to my children. Coming back to the question – Which is
the best book I have ever read? I hope the answer someday would be – My own
book!
